چکیده

Abstract We describe an extension of the halo-based galaxy group-finding algorithm. add freedom to algorithm in order more accurately determine which galaxies are central and satellites, provide unbiased estimates halo masses. focus on determination galaxy-halo relations for star-forming quiescent galaxies. The added is self-calibrated using observations color-dependent clustering, as well measurements total satellite luminosity deep imaging data around stacked samples spectroscopic galaxies, L sat . test this approach a series mocks that vary connection, including one mock constructed from Universe Machine results. Our shows marked improvement over previous methods estimating fraction It reduces error log M h by factor two, ≲0.2 dex. Through data, it can quantify differences luminosity-to-halo mass even groups with only member. Thus, whereas algorithms cannot constrain scatter gal at fixed M h , self-calibration technique robust lower limit scatter.

A Halo-Based Galaxy Group Finder: Calibration and Application to the 2dFGRS

We use the halo occupation model to calibrate galaxy group finders in magnitudelimited redshift surveys. Since, according to the current scenario of structure formation, galaxy groups are associated with cold dark matter halos, we make use of the properties of the halo population in the design of our group finder. The method starts with an assumed mass-to-light ratio to assign a tentative mass ...

Calibrating the Galaxy Halo – Black Hole Relation Based on the Clustering of Quasars

The observed number counts of quasars may be explained either by long-lived activity within rare massive hosts, or by short-lived activity within smaller, more common hosts. It has been argued that quasar lifetimes may therefore be inferred from their clustering length, which determines the typical mass of the quasar host. Here we point out that the relationship between the mass of the black-ho...

A Self-Calibrating, Vision-Based Navigation Assistant

We describe a body-worn sensor suite, environment representation, set of algorithms, and graphical-aural interface designed to provide human-centered guidance to a person moving through a complex space. The central idea underlying our approach is to model the environment as a graph of visually distinctive places (graph nodes) connected by path segments (graph edges). During exploration, our alg...

MaxBCG: A Red Sequence Galaxy Cluster Finder

Measurements of galaxy cluster abundances, clustering properties, and massto-light ratios in current and future surveys can provide important cosmological constraints. Digital wide-field imaging surveys, the recently-demonstrated fidelity of red-sequence cluster detection techniques, and a new generation of realistic mock galaxy surveys provide the means for construction of large, cosmologicall...

A self-calibrating phase-shifting algorithm based on the natural demodulation of two-dimensional fringe patterns.

A new method of estimating the phase-shift between interferograms is introduced. The method is based on a recently introduced two-dimensional Fourier-Hilbert demodulation technique. Three or more interferogram frames in an arbitrary sequence are required. The first stage of the algorithm calculates frame differences to remove the fringe pattern offset; allowing increased fringe modulation. The ...
